Press Release
Red Oak Victory is partnering with Rosie the Riveter Trust, the Boilermakers Union Local 549 and the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park to begin the first phase of renovation and revival of the last surviving ship built in the Kaiser Shipyards during World War II by workers including the women who inspired the icon, Rosie the Riveter. Red Oak Victory last entered the shipyard for a complete overhaul in 2011. Weather and time has taken a toll on the deck and superstructure.
We made great strides August 18 – 29, but there’s more to do!

The Modern Day Rosies and Roberts worked closely with our Red Oak Victory crew on numerous projects to repair and restore rusted railings, deck plating and replace the galley exhaust stack during the two-week project.
Many project volunteers signed on as regular Red Oak Victory crew members, bolstering our ranks with talented, skilled workers.
Our project list was very ambitious and we’re planning additional work days to continue efforts. For media and other inquiries, please contact info@redoakvictory.us.
Publicity
The press coverage we received exceeded our expectations. In addition to local media, the Victory Ship Revival project was featured in the Los Angeles Times, CBSNews Los Angeles and even the BBC! Check our Press/Media page for the complete list.
