Red Oak Victory’s resident World War II Living History Group is happy to announce the introduction of our video series entitled “Now Hear This!”. In this series, our crew will take you to different parts of the Red Oak Victory, tell you about the clothing and equipment of the World War II sailor, and discuss some of the technologies and techniques used at sea by the US Navy in World War II. In Episode 1 of “Now Hear This”, we’ll go down to the lower engine room to see the steam turbines, the reduction gear and the propeller shaft which, of course, are the vital components providing propulsion to the ship. Episode 2 is a two-part presentation about the compasses used on Red Oak Victory during her service life. In the third episode, you’ll learn something about the working clothing of our sailors in World War II.
